William Brown was arrested Friday, Aug. 17, after Fairfield Police received a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle collision in front of Tile America and that the vehicle at fault was fleeing the scene, said Lt. Robert Kalamaras.

Officers on scene determined that a mail truck was traveling east on Commerce Drive in the right lane of travel was struck by a red landscaping truck passing him on his left side when it veered into the right lane of travel and sideswiped the left side of the mail truck, Kalamaras said.

No injuries were reported. The victim was able to capture a digital photo of the suspect’s license plate before it fled the scene. The registration was listed to Brown who was located a short distance away in the parking lot of Bill’s Crossroads, police said.

He was arrested and charged with failure to drive in proper lane, evading responsibility and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

In addition to the charges, several warrants were also served during his arrest for incidents that took place on July 5.

On that day, Brown is said to have made an unsafe lane change, causing a motorcyclist to run into the back of his truck.

The motorcyclist wasn't injured, but a witness was able to take a photo of Brown's truck when he left the scene of the crash.

As police began looking for Brown for the crash, another officer was attempting to located him for him in connection with an incident that took place earlier at Jennings Beach.

During that incident, a lifeguard said that Brown, whose truck was also photographed in that incident, kept approaching young teenage girls. The lifeguard asked him to leave the beach and reported the incident to police.

Brown is being held on $5,000, in addition to other bonds for the July 5 incident, and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Aug. 27.
